On August 17, 1991, 23 people gathered together to establish the foundation of what would be the Abranian Club of Ontario.
These were: Totoy and Erly Valera, James and Neny Carino, Sitong and Puritz Bernardez, Amos and Lucille Dumpit, Mark and Puling
Gonzales, Jess and Tess Meneses, Freddie and Meli Gonzales, Matthew and Baby Hall, Ray Gonzales, Bletski Navarro, Wally, Ray
and Edwin Belisario. The first organizational meeting was held on September 7, 1991 attended by the original founders and
new recruits: Edd and Carol Banez, Joe and Dida Flores, Roger and Alma Torreno and Ester Mago. Totoy Valera as the club's
interim president and the ad hoc committee were introduced at its Acquaintance Dinner-Dance held on November 23, 1991. A raffle
held at this event raised C$300 for Perlita Balneg, who was brought from the Philippines to Toronto for a facial mass surgery
at the Hospital for Sick Children under the Herbie Foundation. She has since returned to her hometown of Caloa in Bucay, Abra
after the successful surgery. On May 2, 1992, the first officers were formally inducted and on May 16, 1994, the registration
as a non-profit organization was obtained, a status that is maintained to this day.
